Safeguarding
Safeguarding means protecting the health, wellbeing and rights of every child in our school, enabling each individual to live free from harm, abuse and neglect.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is an international agreement that protects the human rights of children under 18. Follow this link for further guidance – UN Convention on the Rights of the Child – Guide for parents – Children’s Commissioner for Wales (childcomwales.org.uk)
This is at the heart of everything in we do, as we ensure that we:
• put learner’s rights at the centre of planning and delivery
• give every learner an equal opportunity
• build learner’s capabilities so that they can experience their rights
• listen to our learners and take their views into account
• be accountable for decisions and actions that affect our learner’s lives
As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, we teach our learners how to protect themselves as part of the Health and Wellbeing element of our curriculum.
We also work in collaboration with the Wales Police Schools Programme, whereby we are frequently visited by our School Police Officer, PC Lindsay Sweetman, who delivers interactive sessions on the following topics at an age-appropriate level:
• People Who Help Us; Safety / Abuse; Alcohol, Drugs and Solvents; Bullying; Internet Safety / Cyberbullying; Anti-Social Behaviour

The responsibility for keeping our children safe lies with the whole school community – that is all members of staff, all parents / carers and all visitors. We all have a duty of care towards the welfare and safety of the children who attend our school. This means that we all have a responsibility to report any instances of concern to the designated safeguarding leads:
Safeguarding Lead – Sarah Ruggeri – 01686 625582 – ruggeris@hwbcymru.net
Deputy Safeguarding Lead – Debbie Luke – 01686 625582 – luked1@hwbcymru.net
If you have any safeguarding concerns about the Headteacher, Sarah Ruggeri, you must report these to the Chair of Governors, Mike Bacigalupo – 03000 253128 – mike.bacigalupo@gov.wales
“Love one another as I have loved you, then everyone will know that you are my disciples”. John 13:34
